Fasting is the one of the rituals in Islam beliefs. This is the period when the Muslims have to avoid eating, drinking, smoking, and having sexual activity in the morning until afternoon. Fasting is done during the Ramadan month, which is the ninth month in Islamic calendar. In addition, Muslims are suggested to do only the positive activities such as helping the poor, studying, reading Quran, working and others. So, foul talk, lustful thoughts, and vain speech should be reduced. As the third pillar in Islam, every adult has to do this. In Quran, Allah has said clearly that He also order the people before the Islamic ages to fast. It can be inferred that Jewish and Christian are also asked to fast.

Whatever the things Allah order to people will result great benefits. Although fasting looks so terrible and difficult to do, the positive benefits are countless. Since the compulsory fasting is done during the Ramadan, it creates a sense of community and belonging. Almost all Muslims in the world are fasting in the same time whether they are poor or rich. It gives the opportunity for the rich to feel what the poor feel. As the month of charity, Ramadan will be so beautiful because there are many people who will donate their belongings. However, there are some conditions that allow the Muslims for not fasting. For example, pregnant and nursing mothers may not fast. People who are sick and the menstruating women do not have to fast. But the fasting must be made up later.
